The Last Night UE4 Fan Project
Unreal Engine 4 + Maya + Aseprite
This took a lot of work, especially trial and error! I was really inspired by the great work of Odd Tales at making 'The Last Night' as well as the work of the team behind 'Backbone' in developing 2.5D pixel-art hybrid art styles. Their videos, artwork and explanations helped a ton making this!
Lots of materials and assets were made, but I tried to keep performance and game-readiness in mind, so most of the assets use shared instances, foliage, material parameters and blueprint actors. The only 3D elements in the scene are actually the apartment units (one mesh) and the balcony (one mesh), both sharing the same texture from a sprite atlas.
Responsible for everything except Fog, Rain and dirt mask on the camera (engine content).
